Seniors Section
Welcome to all new members

We are a section for the over 60’s who enjoy friendly competitive golf both between ourselves and with like minded golfers from other, mainly local clubs and sections. Some of the season’s activities are as follows.

Matches with other clubs (home and away).

We have some 40 friendly matches and notices are posted on the Senior Captain’s notice board approximately 4 weeks prior to a match asking for availability. Please enter your name if you would like to play. The chosen team is then posted on the same board about 2 weeks before the game. After each match we all shower and change and stay for the meal that is always laid on. Attendance at the meal is part of the package. You are also expected to be available for both home and away games.

Senior’s Medals

During the season we have 4 individual medals followed by the Senior of the Year medal. The John  Alexander Trophy is awarded to the senior with the lowest nett score from the aggregate of his best 2 medals and the final Senior of the Year medal. These will be played from the yellow tees.

The Senior’s Cup for the Seniors closed championship is awarded for the best medal round on the day of the Senior’s AGM. This is also played from the yellow tees.

The Cecil Hannah Trophy

This is played for on the Senior Captains day and the format is decided by the Captain.

Withers Bowl

This is a mixed foursomes medal and partners are drawn from our Lady members.

J J Evans Plate

An individual Stableford competition played from the yellow tees.

The Pat McMahon Trophy

A Greensomes Stableford played from the yellow tees. Partners are drawn on a high/low handicap basis

The Alex Alexander Winter Salver

This competition is played over the winter. The first phase is in 8 mini leagues with the top 2 seniors in each going forward to a knockout phase after Christmas.

The Christmas Texas scramble and lunch

Teams of 4, which are drawn from different handicap ranges, play a Texas scramble over 9 holes followed by Christmas lunch and prizegiving.

The Chick Ward Salver

This is played for on the Seniors away day where we play at another course (chosen by the Captain). The day comprises coffee & roll on arrival, 18 holes of golf followed by dinner and prizegiving.

Seniors invitation day

Invite a senior friend from another club to play with you in a 4 ball better ball for the Ted Hogg Trophy. Followed by dinner and prizegiving.

Details of all the above events are posted on the Senior’s notice boards with details of how to enter.

Senior Open events

We have 2 senior open competitions (both organised by Keith Hopkins) as follows

The Seniors Open

Played for the Bill Moncrieff Salver, this is an individual medal open to the over 60’s from any golf club. We play in teams of 3, usually with 1 Lansdown member playing with 2 visitors.

9+9 Open

This is played for the Todd Tankard and is for the over 65’s. It consists of 9 holes then lunch followed by the other 9 holes. Again usually 1 Lansdown member playing with 2 visitors.

Senior Open Competitions at other Clubs

These are a great way to play golf on other local courses, for which Derek Godwin co-ordinates Lansdown entries. Please watch the notice board early in the year for details of how to enter.
