In
February 1998 we commissioned an Archaeological Impact Assessment
by the Bath Archaeological Trust to establish where we could
best plant 6000 trees in a planned 3 year programme. The
aim of this was to increase wildlife, improve the environment
and make the area more asthetically pleasing for all.
This
assessment identified areas of Military Earthworks both
Civil and 20th Century, possible Iron Age Field Systems
and Mesolithic Flint Scatters. The planned tree planting
programme commenced in late 1998 and was completed in 2001.
A further 1000 trees have since been planted with the help
of a Forestry Commission Grant. It is our policy to preserve
these areas from any management that may damage them.
Part
of the Cotswold Way meanders around the Golf Course and
these Public Rights of Way are kept open and free from obstruction.
The Dry Stone Walls around the course are maintained by
the Club and are also freely used by the Cotswold Conservation
Board for Training in this specialist craft.
Our
policy of having firm, fast greens means the need for watering
through our computer controlled irrigation system is kept
to a minimum. Indeed, we only need to water when the fine
grasses are under severe stress. Our fairways are not included
in our irrigation system and are managed solely from
natural sources. By careful management over the past few
years we have reduced our Water Bills by over 30% and it
is our policy to further reduce them. We have achieved
this saving by constant monitoring of the Water Meter to
establish when leaks have occured and then repairing them
promptly. We also decommission our irrigation system between
October and May each year. Our Electricity and Oil Fuel
Bills are also constantly monitored with the aim of reducing
these year on year.
All
Cans and Bottles that are left in the bins provided on each
tee are collected and seperated with the non-recyclable
ones being collected by BANES.
The
pathways throughout the Golf Course are made up from recycled
wood provided by local businesses and we are in the process
of trialling recycled crushed glass as a replacement for
sand in our bunkers.
This
page is dedicated to our Environmental Initiatives and will
be updated as and when we find new ways to help nature flourish
and provide enjoyment for all in and around our Golf Course.
